Solomon Islands (2013b)

Date of issue: 2013
Name of issue: Australian fauna - Huntsman spiders
Number of arachnid related stamps in issue: 5/60

2013 is turning out to be a very prolific year for arachnid stamps. Cook Island had the great idea to have five stamps dedicated to huntsman spiders in their series called "Australia Fauna". My gripe with this series (as always, I need to complain about something) is that the artist seems to have forgotten or ignore why these spiders are called "huntsman". On every stamp, he has drawn a very distinct spider web, reminiscent of what orb weavers would construct.

Somalia (2000b)

Date of issue: December 12th, 2000
Name of issue: Carnivorous plants

Number of arachnid related stamps in issue: 0/4

I had a colleague who had told me that there was a spider in this series. I was never able to find it, the main problem is that I had no scan of the souvenir sheet.

Indeed, there is a spider in the lower pitcher plant on the souvenir sheet itself (not on the stamp). It is quite abstract, but I based my analysis on the fact that the ants on the art work have their three body segment and that arthropod in the pitcher plant clearly has two. Several limbs are missing, but arguably, it is possible that the plant started digesting it!

Somalia (2002a)

Date of issue: December 16th, 2002
Name of issue: Spiders
Number of arachnid related stamps in issue: 4/4

This would have been a nice series if they would not have used this generic webbing for the background and they would have placed the black widow in a natural position (upside down). Also note the spelling mistake on Latrodectus mactans. Not to mention that horrible souvenir sheet.
