Mozambique (2013)

Date of issue: 2013
Number of arachnid stamps in issue: 1/150?

Great news, here is another amblypygi stamp! Phrynichus lunatus (Pallas, 1772) is nomen dubium, it is said to be from Suriname from some sources, another one says Cayenne (French Guiana) and some Antilles Islands, but it is presumably an error. It's distribution is unknown.

The art work of the amblypygi is the exact copy of an old print from Drapiez (1853). My friend Alex Hooijer offered me one of those prints as a gift (thank you Alex!).

As you can see, the artist was very liberal with the coloration. The description that came with the prints states that the animals is maroon-brown!!! As we know, amblypygi are not known to be very colourful, aside from a few exceptions.
