Argentina (1969)

Date of issue: August 9th, 1969
Number of arachnid related stamps in issue: 1/5

This series is a little far fetched. I have included it because among the figures shown, there is an arachnologist that contributed several articles on opiliones, solifugids and spiders, Dr. Eduardo Ladislao Holmberg born in Buenos Aires on June 26, 1852.

Michel #: 1029
Scott #: 901
Stanley Gibbon #: 1260
Yvert #: 844

Argentina (2009)

Date of issue: July 25th, 2009

The second and more recent issue from Argentina is quite interesting as it shows a species that was originally described by Holmberg (originally described as Ocypete pythagorica), a nice continuation from the previous series.

Series of eight stamps, two of those issued to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Charles Darwin on the Beagle. The series itself contains no arachnid, but the souvenir sheet of the Darwin stamp shows a spider preserved in amber.

Australia (1978)*

Date of issue: October 29th, 1978
Number of arachnid related stamps in issue: 1/4

This is an interesting curiosity. Not a valid postal stamp. It comes as an exterior orange booklet and a second sheet (loose, folded but not stapled or attached) printed on stamp quality paper (no gum). It is a really nice piece in my opinion.

The description of the sheet says:

Printed at Stamp Show '78 on the Heidelberg GTO press by Mitchell Press Pty. Ltd.

Designed by Sarah Winslade winner of the Stamp Show '78 design award under 16 section.

The back of the booklet says:

Reproduction of a miniature sheet. First produced at 4th Philatelic Exhibition Melbourne October 29th, 1928.

Taken from drawing by R.A. Harrison

Each sheet is numbered and dated for day of production at Stamp Show '78

Original was supplied by Mission Stamps and is available from Mission Stamps or
