This is the oldest arachnid stamp that I know of (although the oldest arachnid related stamp is the 1960 Romania spider web with moth stamp). A splendid series with beautiful artwork typical of older stamps. It is not so easy to find this complete series.

Note that the third spiders stamps of this series is labelled as "Theraphoside", although it is clearly not a mygalomorph. It seems to be a jumping spider and the fact that it is battling an ant, I assumed it could be one of those ant-mimic Salticidae.

When the security printers package new stamp sheet issues for shipment to the government stamp agencies who contracted the printing, they inadvertantly create a scarce collectible that is seldom seen on the market.

A sample sheet is die cut with the word "ANNULÉ" (meaning "canceled" in French) to make it not valid for postage, in the same manner as overprinting issues "SPECIMEN". That sample sheet is trimmed at the bottom and affixed to cardboard and used as a stiffener at the front of a "brick" of 200 sheets or souvenir sheets, then shrink wrapped along with each 200 mint sheets for shipment to the issuing agency.

Since the issuing agency breaks these up for packaging small quantities for stamp wholesalers, dealers and collectors, a collector never gets to see the "annulée" stamp sheet!
